Dr. Mavrommatakis is a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist, who earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Columbia University in New York City. He has extensive clinical experience working with professional and collegiate athletes across rugby, football, soccer and basketball, helping them recover from injury and return to sport safely and efficiently. He is currently the director of rehabilitation and lead physical therapist for the Seattle Seawolves professional rugby team.
Originally from England, he studied in London, completing a Bachelor's degree in biology, a Master's degree in neuroscience and a PhD in developmental neurobiology. Seeking a new challenge and the experience of living abroad, he moved to New York City to work as a research scientist at Columbia University, where he spent eight years studying eye development in fruit flies. While coaching and playing for the Columbia University Medical School rugby team, he suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery and extensive physical therapy. Experiencing rehabilitation firsthand sparked a deep interest with how the human body adapts, heals and recovers from injury, ultimately leading him back to school and into a new career in physical therapy.
His goal for every client is to move better, recover faster and maintain long-term health. A strong emphasis is placed on education, empowering clients to understand their anatomy in relation to their injury - what is injured, how the body heals, and how movement and exercise can be used to reduce the risk of recurrence. He takes a whole-body approach to assessment and treatment, recognizing that pain and dysfunction are often influenced by multiple systems and regions. Using evidence-based interventions such as manual therapy, blood flow restriction training, dry needling and targeted therapeutic exercise to promote recovery, he will create an individualized treatment plan to help your return to peak performance.
