Concussion Treatment & Management:

Concussions are a mild form of brain injury that can temporarily affect brain function, and are commonly a result of falls, motor vehicle accidents or sporting collisions. Common symptoms include headache, fatigue, confusion or general feeling of being in a fog, dizziness, an increased sensitivity to light and sound, disrupted sleep, imbalance and nausea. While these symptoms will eventually resolve, not all concussions are the same and everyone will experience a slightly different recovery.

Concussion treatment involves a comprehensive individualized approach to restore normal brain function and body coordination, while trying to keep the post-concussion symptoms under control. Typical treatment involves:

    • Coordination Exercises

    • Balance Training Exercises

    • Proprioception Exercises

    • Vestibular Exercises

    • Vestibulo-Ocular Exercises

    • Cervical Mobilization and Soft Tissue massage to help relieve concussion related headaches

    • Cervical Stabilization Exercises

    • Light aerobic exercise on the bike, progressing to more intense activities

    • Short slow walks, progressing to fast pace walks, progressing to jogging

    • Gradual increase in intensity following return to play guidelines.
